It's going to be a long month
Jun. 9th, 2006 07:18 pmSo, aaargh, the World Cup is finally upon us...
As someone who was a decent left winger on the school team some 30 years ago, I would like to see England do well but I doubt they'll make it past the quarter finals. I'm not even that bothered about seeing any of their games.
Nowadays my left wingery is rather more political in nature and I've hardly kicked a football half a dozen times since 1978. So instead of behaving like everyone else in this predictably barking mad island I've decided to back the country whose players get paid the least, which is probably Togo. They might just do better than England... something that will hopefully empty the streets of red and white flags as soon as possible and we can all go back to being a properly cynical nation once again. Somewhere I feel far more comfortable.
