My February royalty statement from Getty Images shows two photos sold last month – the first is of the view from a First Class seat on a BA 777 (not that I ever actually travel First Class, mind) on a flight from Singapore to Sydney in 2007 and sold to a company called Astrakhan in Japan. This photo is already out of date as the First cabins are now being upgraded. The second is of the underside of a palm leaf I photographed in Dhaka, Bangladesh, also in 2007, and sold to Fidelity Communications in Maryland. Both sales bring in just £60 this month, pocket money I'll be putting towards Miles's nursery fees later this year.
I kind of wish Getty had asked for a couple of images I took just ten minutes after the palm leaf photo, which are much more along the lines of the kind of photography I love to do. Maybe then I could start earning the kind of money Chris Bissell used to earn from Getty: something in the region of £50,000 a month.
