A Very Happy Birthday to [livejournal.com profile] perlmonger.
peteryoung: (Miles)

I can watch this video repeatedly (well I would, wouldn't I). This was Miles' second time at a Roland Synth Drum kit, and he plays with it at a friend's house in Bangkok. He seems to know what he's doing and what it's all for, and we'll be encouraging this as much as possible. He's now taken to going around shouting "Music!!" whenever he hears something musical that he likes, and one of his favourite toys at the moment is a plastic trumpet which he prefers to hold upside down while he plays with it – even Miles Davis wasn't that avant garde.

Miles was 2 years and 2 months old a few days ago and he had just over a week in England at the end of September (his 6th visit), during which time we went to a great Thomas the Tank Engine Day Out in The Kent and East Sussex Railway in Tenterden. This wasn't Miles' first encounter with steam trains as there's a lovely old steam engine that he likes to visit parked at the station near our home in Hua Hin. At most of Thailand's major stations there's an old steam engine parked in a siding somewhere as part of Thailand's efforts to preserve some of its railway history (and Hua Hin Station itself is a national treasure because of its unusual architecture). But this was the real deal for him: a real-lifeThomas and a ride on the coaches Annie and Clarabel with dozens of other kids.

He's also picked up two of my long-time habits: picking up a book as soon as he wakes up (which he gets me to read for him), and when we get home after having been out and about, we go straight to the fridge to see if there's anything interesting to eat. He's also now beginning to get through the day without his usual mid-afternoon siesta, which means he's starting to go to bed around 7pm (instead of 9 or 10), and we can at last begin to RECLAIM OUR EVENINGS.
