Now that I'm fully stocked up with Ativan, got my fake diploma and helped out several needy Nigerians, my spam quotient has been doubling on a monthly basis for around six months now (currently around 5,000 a month). It's still a small amount by [livejournal.com profile] the_magician's standards, but as my ISP doesn't use filters and I can't be bothered to install one myself I'm taking the stress-free way out (I clearly don't have the steely resolve of [livejournal.com profile] dougs). If I'm in your address book please ammend my e-mail addy to:

peter dot a dot young at macunlimited dot net

I'll periodically check my previous address but for the forseeable future will prefer mail to be sent to the above, at least until I get a personal web address sorted out.

Ta.

Isn't it horrible? My work address gets huge amounts and i only go to a very small number of webpages from here. And i never ever use this email addy to sign up for things. You can use your own addy if you need to register on a web page and then the spam will stay there. My home isp isn't too bad, i think they have filters but the email address i use that has mail forwarded from a web page i help out with gets large numbers too. The isp filter obviously doesn't work if it's forwarded mail.

What email program are you using, Pete?

I have been using Mailwasher to filter some of my email prior to using my email client, and it seems to be helping.

I need the Ativan to cope with the spam. ;-)

I'm using Outlook Express 5 on a G3 Mac.

PS. How's our article coming along? I doubt I'll get ZN #5 out by Eastercon now, so the deadline's a bit more flexible at the moment...

I only started getting spam a year ago. It takes ten minutes out of every day just to delete the stuff unopened when it comes in. Now I wonder how long it will take spammers to discover this new address...

It will, but an email client with inbuilt spam filtering is easier...

If you've got a G3, bung in some RAM and get OS X. Its Mail.app program has *excellent* smart spam filtering.

Failing that, go for Mozilla - the latest version drops MacOS 9 support but older ones will do it and also have excellent spam filtering.

Article? Not even looked, TBH; got paid work piling up ATM... :¬(
