Out of the blue and for no apparent reason, my employer (or at least 'scheduling', the Department that Plays God With Our Lives) has just phoned. Perhaps they spy on my LJ. They've taken me off Saturday's Riyadh flight (relief) and want me to go to Dhaka in Bangladesh on Sunday instead. Well, OK... an extra day at home, and Dhaka is somewhere I haven't visited for at least a decade, so all-in-all I think I'm up on the deal for once.

The downside is, I won't be around for [livejournal.com profile] fjm's BSFA interview with Steph Swainston on Wednesday, which I was particularly looking forward to, as I will only get home on Thursday. Too bad, but them's the breaks.

Did they ever say what was in the briefcase? I hope it was something amusing.

Well, Pete, you've just benefitted from the Total Information Awareness system! One of the many Men In Black that monitor the system noticed that you had some "down time" and contacted BA to get you back into a more productive mode!

Perhaps they could address a few shortfalls in my monthly paycheck while they're looking...

Any progress in getting an LJ of your own?

Fred, if you're having problems, I can make you an LJ and send you the password. Once you've changed the password, it's all yours. The only irrevocable decision you have to make at the beginning is "what user name do I want?"

What do you do with BA that you get to travel so much? If it weren't for some of the more dangerous places, i'd say it must be an interesting job.

It was, I am told, empty.

I'm an air steward, or according to [livejournal.com profile] ang_grrr, a "long distance flying thingy." I've been looking for the glamour for nearly 18 years and still haven't found it...

Are you coming to plokta.con?

Ahhh... So no glamour and you probably don't get to see much of the interesting places on a layover i suppose. And i suppose flying somewhere for a holiday is a bit of a busman's holiday, so to speak.

When you go to places enough you get to them slowly, but it's usually only nightstops. 2 or 3 full days somewhere is a bit of a luxury.

As for holidays, I try to avoid airports if at all possible!

Thanks for reminding me. The only Plokta.con day I now know I will be home is the Saturday, So I'll certainly be there that day, as I'll probably be given a flight on Sunday.

So Farah Mendlesohn and Steph Swainston haven't offered to fly to Bangladesh with you in order to re-enact their interview on the flight? Pity.

As she's doing the interview after I've left, I'll offer her my time machine on the condition I get it back last week. ;-)
