Sunset, Houts Bay, Cape Town, 9 April 1995
The sun's rim dips, the stars rush out,
At one stride comes the dark;
With far-heard whisper o'er the sea
Off shot the specter bark.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge, The Ancient Mariner

There was a fantastic crescent moon with earthlight, and a very bright Venus nearby, in Reading last night. I took my little Olympus out to take the photo, like your eclipse photo, but discovered that, although the light sensitivity is nice, it just hasn't got the megapixels or the optical zoom power of your camera.
(Also my 3V lithium battery chose exactly that moment to die without warning after months of sterling service, and the crappy 2x1.2V rechargables always fail to focus the optics properly at the highest zooms for some reason, before just failing, period)

Date: 2004-04-23 03:08 am (UTC)Ah, now that's useful, thanks. I shall add them. I have hundreds of sun quotes which I scribed by hand from the dozens of books of quotations I have here, all from before I had my first computer. I always wanted to tie them somehow with pictures I've taken. I'll probably end up creating a free account for sun pictures soon and post them there separately.
I saw the moon and Venus last night while out walking, it was a perfectly clear night. Very inspiring...
