In reply to [livejournal.com profile] frandowdsofa yesterday about my vote for the Mock Turner Prize, I said "that cat will give me nightmares." Sure enough...

Last night I dreamed of being in a hotel somewhere in Africa because, curiously, I'd been asked to rid Buckingham Palace of a plague of poisonous spiders and the recommended way of doing this was to to team up with an extremely large African cat – namely, a puma. So eventually I'm locked in a room with this enormous and dangerous animal, so we can get to know each other first before going off to save Queen and Country (unusual enough in itself as I'm no Royalist).

So this puma was pacing up and down the room like the caged animal it was, and every time it walked past me it pushed against me harder. I couldn't understand the puma's behaviour – was it being friendly the same way a domesticated cat is, or was it somehow challenging me? ....except that pumas are native to the Americas. But then dreams aren't bound by ordinary geography, are they....

My bad... but it was defintely a puma, and it was definitely in Africa.

Reminds me of that famous telegram to Cairo:

– "WE ARE SURROUNDED BY LIONS AND TIGERS. PLEASE ADVISE."

– "THERE ARE NO TIGERS IN AFRICA."

– "DELETE TIGERS."

It sounds like you've been reading Life of Pi!

Basically it sounds like you're tense and expecting some bad thing to erupt in your life before long, you're just waiting for it and hoping it won't be that bad after all..

Not read Life of Pi yet, but your reading of this dream may actually be spot on. Ta.
