Alas I shall not be at the Xmas Tun tonight despite my plans to be there. My right knee has become rather badly inflamed to the point that it's now almost impossible to walk, despite taking Diclofenac over the last two days. A trip into London with lots of walking would stress the joint too much so I'm begging off.

Have a pint on me, whoever makes it...

Eep -- that sounds awful. Hope your knee improves. Look on it as an opportunity to get some hardcore reading done?

Hardcore? You want Pete to spend the night reading pornography? With a dodgy knee? I suspect that's adding insult to injury.

I'm half-way through Mary Doria Russell's A Thread of Grace at the moment, but found my attention was being distracted by the pain. So I've settled for some lighter stuff: Steve Martin's Pure Drivel. Now that's more like it...

Okay normally I am all against herbal remedies. I think they work more by wishful thinking than actual pharmacological effects. That said taking large amounts of turmeric may help with the inflammation. Not enough to get you up and about for Tun, but you might try it. Before you do so, check to see if the diclofenac contains curcuminoids, the active stuff in turmeric, and possibly also check with your pharmacist to see if there would be a bad interaction.

Hope you feel better.

No mention of circuminoids on the ingredients, but I'll be adding turmeric to portions of rice tomorrow. Thanks.

ow. sorry to hear about the knee. Would putting ice-packs on it help? Hope you have a nice relaxing evening instead.

Slept OK last night but the knee's worse today. To make things completely unbearable I couldn't go into the Apple Store in Regent Street to pick up my repaired laptop, which means I'll be without it over the whole weekend just when I could do with it most!

Many sympathies. I recall gout flare-ups both the first time I was due to audition for Radio 5 and then my last day running the fan lounge at the 1997 Eastercon. Bastard timing on either count.

This is bastard timing too. I've had to call in and skip work tomorrow, which means as it's also over Xmas they come down hard on people throwing a sickie for non-genuine reasons. At least I've got a new anti-inflammatory prescription from my GP to prove it. Now back to bed...
