So, on the subject of daleks, are there boy daleks and girl daleks? And where do baby daleks come from? The fact that I don't already know the answers to those questions is a clear sign that I haven't watched enough of Doctor Who. I'm sure all you hardcore Doctor Who fans will be rolling their eyes and mumbling "Everybody knows where baby daleks come from, where has this guy been?"

Best look at the Tom Baker story Genesis of the Daleks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genesis_of_the_Daleks) (which isn't out on DVD yet, despite often being voted the best ever DW story). In short, the Kaled scientist Davros created and cloned them from mutated cells to win the Kaleds' war with the Thals on the planet Skaro, but the Daleks later turned on Davros because he wasn't as pure as them. No boys or girls (as far as we know).

So are they all cloned from cells from the same person?

Are they effectively immortal, or do they eventually die of old age. Since they contain organic matter it seems reasonable to assume they're subject to ageing. So if they eventually die how do they maintain the numbers> I ssume they must just clone more daleks from the same original cells?

Genesis of the Daleks is one I've never seen.
