For the last ten years I've only ever had one real New Year's Resolution: to have more fun than I had the previous year. As this panacea doesn't seem to be working much for me of late, this year I've decided to exercise a bit more clarity:

1. To make my first photographic sale.
2. [livejournal.com profile] fuck_coke. Give it up. No more. Enough, I say.
3. Learn more website design and get at least one website up.
4. Restructure my small education charity which, despite my current negativity, I know is worth it.
5. End the year with £7,000 of this year's income untouched.

A good way to ensure I do some of these is by updating monthly on LJ. So as someone who can't stand vegetarians who preach, in the same spirit my posting of anti-Coke stuff such as this shouldn't be taken as an attempt at proselytising.

In the spirit of helping with resolution 2, but being no help whatsoever on resolution 5, I would like to mention that the Fentiman's (http://www.botanically-brewed-soft-drinks.co.uk/) soft drinks are a complete revelation. Their Dandelion and Burdock is the closest I've had to the 'proper' stuff that I used to get from a herbalist/temperance stall on Burnley or Blackburn market when I was a kid. They do a cola.

I think I've seen them in Reading's big Tescos, but as last month I cut up my Tescos Visa card (because they really don't need any more of my money) I'll have to check out Sainsburys, or better, Oddbins. Ta.

My unofficial resolution is to cut out the supermarkets altogether, except maybe the Co-op. It all started when Sainsbury's caved in to a tiny organisation of fundamentalist bampots late last year, and I signed a pledge to boycott them for six months. I'm hoping that by the end of that time, I'll be used to using the small shops and won't want to go back. The only thing that is only sold by supermarkets that I use is the small tins of Discovery Foods refried beans, and the Co-op sells them.

I've just been to my lovely local vegan wholefood shop, which will do special orders and deliveries, and are hoping to start up a veggie box delivery scheme. We have a small Co-op in our sub-urb. Anything else will be for visitors emergencies only!

We have Real Foods up the road, which got our festive shopping this year. We also have several two Chinese supermarkets just down the road, several Indian places up the road, and a large south Asian/middle eastern warehouse about 10 minutes walk away. Scotmid, the local co-op, has several branches of varying sizes within spitting distance. When we move, it won't be far...

What's the charity all about?

Education sponsorship for kids in Kenya and South Africa, mostly girls. I currently have about 30 kids going through primary and secondary schools in Soweto, and a boy who's just finished University in Nairobi.

Apologies, but I won't be giving up coca cola. I have maybe one a month and it's pretty much the only vice drink/food that doesn't make me ill.
