Last night's flight was somewhat unusual. Flying from Abu Dhabi to London our 777 flew directly over Baghdad, where we were suddenly asked to go round in circles above the city for 30 minutes at 30,000ft (an inconvenience which also burned off 2.5 tons of rocket fuel). The US military still controls the airspace and they were clearly up to something, messing around with civil aircraft movements to make way for something else.

Maybe Cheney's dropping in for a friendly shooting match with Jack Straw? Or perhaps they want to use civil airliners as target practice again and we just got lucky.

The icon comes from Karmarama (http://www.karmarama.com) (click on the logo then 'our work'). I think Blair tends to avoid the photoshoots that would show him holding a weapon (unlike Cheney), so we're probably as in the dark on that question as you are.

Yes, 'Guantanamo: The Christmas Panto'. What a good idea. I might suggest it to these people (http://www.rhickman.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk).
