April 1st Shock Horror Probe
Apr. 1st, 2006 06:43 pmAs I was getting stir crazy having only left the house once in the last week, this afternoon I took the rash decision of getting in the car (cautiously) and driving to a local café. What a wild and crazy life I lead. So going throught their newspaper rack I spotted the following April Fools:
Daily Mail: Tony Blair has the door of No. 10 painted a 'Socialist Red'.
Daily Express: Roads made of crushed biscuits.
The Times: 'Chip and Sing' for cash withdrawal cards.
Daily Mirror: An oak tree that resembles members of the Royal Family.
The Sun: A lone penguin spotted on London's South Bank of the River Thames.
The Guardian: Coldplay want us to vote Tory.
And if The Independent's revelation that Jasper Carrot had a past relationship with Condoleezza Rice isn't an April Fool too, then I'm obviously far too incredulous. Please someone tell me it's true... Most of the papers had the traditional BMW April Fools ad, this one about the introduction of slow cameras (as opposed to speed cameras) and how their cars can cheat them. Others I've seen/heard today:
Radio 4's 'European' revamp of its UK Theme music. Not as good as last year's Brian Eno revamp of The Archers theme, but a good effort.
APoD: Hubble Resolves Expiration Date For Green Cheese Moon
Locus Online: New P.O.D. Press to Publish Collections of Words
Locus Online: Lucasfilm Announces "Adult" Star Wars Novel Line
Locus Online: 12 Killed in SFWA Flame War
Locus Online: Williamson's "Wonder Child" a Tissue of Lies?
Locus Online: SFWA to Alter Ellison Award
Locus Online: Barry Malzberg to Fly Virgin Galactic Free
Any I missed? Any good ones from overseas?
