Not to put too fine a point on it, I've been going stir crazy for well over a week, exacerbated by major sleeplessness, worries and other anxieties about family and friends. I've only been out of the house when I've absolutely had to, to give this knee a chance to heal at its own pace and not punish it too much. With physiotherapy it's difficult to judge if I'm overdoing it, and I only learn afterwards if I have because it hurts and this sets recuperation back a few days, so this process is bloody slow. I have to accept I probably won't be going back to my proper job just yet, or for at least a couple more weeks, and this is hard.

But after missing out on Concussion, I do still intend to be at the Arthur C. Clarke Awards in London tomorrow night though whether I'm up for a meal afterwards aswell depends on how the knee is bearing up, though I remain optimistic. I might even be up for [livejournal.com profile] coalescent's BSFA interview with Ian MacLeod tonight, but don't count on seeing me there aswell...

It would be good to see you tonight; you were missed at Concussion.

Thanks mate. I am sorely tempted to start packing some MacLeod books for autographing, along with a small pile of fanzines...

Who do you think will win the Arthur C. Clarke awards?

I would particularly love to see [livejournal.com profile] autopope or Kazuo Ishiguro win, but my gut instinct tells me it will go to Geoff Ryman's Air, which is excellent and has already won the BSFA and Tiptree Awards.

Although I enjoyed Ishiguro's novel a lot, I didn't really feel it was trying to explore any sci-fi themes. They were there more as a tool to add emotion to the story, but they also made it feel like there were some massive plot holes.

I'll try to grab a copy of Air when I'm back in London; I've been craving some good sci-fi for a while now. :-)

Hmm, at this rate I begin to think it might have been more sensible to cut the leg off at the knee and get a peg-leg fitted instead.

You have my total sympathy - I hated being housebound, and that was for a much shorter period of time! Hope all heals quickly and you can get back to being normal quickly.
