I haven't posted on LJ for a while because it would have resembled nothing more than a long whinge about Things Falling Apart.
Apart from all the other undeserved crap that has been affecting family, friends and my bank account, there's the ongoing saga of my dodgy right knee, which seems to have turned into an incident pit. I've been more or less housebound for two months now, and proper rehabilitation physiotherapy is like walking a fine line: going too far aggravates the problem in the bone and sets its recovery back at least two days each time, and not doing enough means nothing gets better. So for a week I have been walking more or less OK, but I'm aware I mustn't overdo it. Then yesterday my left heel became badly inflamed, and at the moment walking at all is next to impossible and not recommended, and my bad leg is now having to carry what was once my good leg. The Achilles tendon is fine, and I think it's a case of heel bursitis brought about by my prolonged overcompensating for my bad knee on the other leg.
Which means several more days of forced R&R on the sofa, another set of physio exercise to add on and once again no Tun for me tonight, where I was again hoping to distribute a pile of fanzines. It now looks like they'll have to go in the post instead as I've been having to hoard them to distribute at each and every fannish event that I've been forced to miss since Eastercon, and I don't want them sitting around for another month.
On the plus side, I have a post-op review with the orthopaedic surgeon to look forward to in two weeks time, and after meeting them on Tuesday the Occupational Health people at work are pleased with the progress made so far and are pencilling me in for a return to work in three weeks (assuming my heel is OK by then), and not necessarily to a desk job but back on a plane. That at least is some light at the end of what has so far been a rather long and dark tunnel.

Date: 2006-05-05 12:05 am (UTC)Hooray! If a somewhat qualified one, but at least it's starting to look better! A finite timeline is infinitely better than having no idea when/if it's all going to end. Well, mostly.
Bursitis is horrible: hope it gets better fast and you have at least an interesting stack of novels/dvds/story ideas near the couch.

Date: 2006-05-05 07:21 am (UTC)What did I do for it? Heat and ice packs on the affected areas, depending on what it was doing. I mostly went for ice (it was summer) and stayed off it as much as possible. Sorry, I'm not a huge amount of help, am I.
