3) Philip K. Dick, Ubik, 1969
Ubik's formless nature makes it hard to care about any of the characters or their predicament. It's also hard to see why Ubik is on the 'SF Masterworks' list other than as another exploration of a virtual reality-like afterlife. If there's more to Ubik then I'm missing the point, and it doesn't come close to Dick's Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch with the unconvincing way it tries to mess with your mind.
