7) Peter Goldsworthy, Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam (expanded edition), 1999
Goldsworthy is also an Australian doctor, and this novella explores a fictional Adelaide family's chosen route – an extreme one – in dealing with terminal illness. Very good and memorable for the right reasons, if not quite perfect because of its deliberately controversial destination.
