9) Alina Reyes, When You Love You Must Depart, 1993
A French writer explores the emotional side of her relationship with her playwright lover and her grown children during and after a long stay in Montréal. Self-indulgent, impressionistic, bohemian and probably highly autobiographical, it's a story only half-told because of what it leaves out though one curiously self-contained, if rather unmemorable.
