I've just gone and facebooked myself, but haven't really figured out what it's useful for, if anything, other than connecting person A with persons B, C and D. Does anyone actually use it, somehow? Is it indispensible to my online life in the way that LJ and Flickr are, or is it just another contact list like bebo (which I also never use)?

I got back in touch with a couple of people, can see photos some of them are putting up and I'm playing scrabble with a few. It's kind of interesting and I'm competing with colleagues on how many people I can collect.

Why is it that Facebook seems so hot amongst the British folk on my Friends list all of a sudden? Something to do with the change in the Prime Minister?

It's something to do with the way in which "innovations" spread through a closely connected group. It's a virus! I joined a few months via a non-sf chum. But interestingly, there does seem to be an increasing number of non-sf related chums of mine on the site suggesting that it is spreading through the layers of British society I inhabit. There's a PhD in there.
