  • Should Doctor Who be enlisted to save the Welsh language?
  • Not quite J.G. Ballard's The Drowned World, but it's based on a similar book and is topical: a film of what would happen if the Thames Barrier failed and London flooded, out next month.
  • Flying saucers are back... yours for $125,000 (pdf). Video evidence and sales pitch here (and the Skycar on their homepage is worth a look just for its design).

Yes, and I expect the saucers will be popular in Roswell...

Radio 4 did a play on London flooding twenty years ago - in the style of a news programme but with frequent warnings so we didn't get all Orson Welles War of the Worlds about it. Might this have been when the barrier was opened? 1984 feels about the right time.

    Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thames_barrier) says 8 May 1984. Kudos!

Um, well, I looked up that page to see when the Barrier opened... It feels like the right date for the play. I can't spot the play being mentioned on the page.
