Life update
Sep. 13th, 2007 08:02 pmI've been more than a little remiss in letting people know about certain plans Benji and I have for next year (that is, people I haven't seen in person recently). If you've been left wondering, this post's for you.
The Date: 3 February 2008. This was determined by a number of factors – marriages are traditionally held near the beginning of the month (usually on the weekend after pay day), it's the coolest month of the year (though still warm) and the best time for my elderly parents to travel, and from her family's side there was a certain amount of Thai astrology involved to ascertain the most auspicious day (all Thais are hopelessly and irredeemably susperstitious).
The Place: the small town of Bang Saphan Yai in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand, a 5-hour drive south of Bangkok. The location of that photo I took a few months ago of trees on the beach is 50 metres from the reception hall. We will have around 1,000 people coming to the reception because Benji's parents have also invited half of the town.
The Honeymoon: a long week in Krabi.
After: I expect/hope to be on a 50% contract with my job by then, meaning a month-on, month-off arrangement. While not ideal, this will suit us for the time being as she is also able to travel on the cheap to the UK. Work-wise, I'm initially also looking at TEFL, and already have the possibility of a part-time job lined up at an aviation school in Bangkok (but much more still needs to be done here in sorting out work arrangements). We've also been looking at many houses in Bangkok where you can get far better value for money than in the UK, and I expect to be either selling or renting out my place here.
We're also planning a party in the UK for friends sometime around April/May, and this will probably be in Bath with overnight accomodation arranged if needed. Everyone invited!
