I've been more than a little remiss in letting people know about certain plans Benji and I have for next year (that is, people I haven't seen in person recently). If you've been left wondering, this post's for you.

The Date: 3 February 2008. This was determined by a number of factors – marriages are traditionally held near the beginning of the month (usually on the weekend after pay day), it's the coolest month of the year (though still warm) and the best time for my elderly parents to travel, and from her family's side there was a certain amount of Thai astrology involved to ascertain the most auspicious day (all Thais are hopelessly and irredeemably susperstitious).

The Place: the small town of Bang Saphan Yai in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand, a 5-hour drive south of Bangkok. The location of that photo I took a few months ago of trees on the beach is 50 metres from the reception hall. We will have around 1,000 people coming to the reception because Benji's parents have also invited half of the town.

The Honeymoon: a long week in Krabi.

After: I expect/hope to be on a 50% contract with my job by then, meaning a month-on, month-off arrangement. While not ideal, this will suit us for the time being as she is also able to travel on the cheap to the UK. Work-wise, I'm initially also looking at TEFL, and already have the possibility of a part-time job lined up at an aviation school in Bangkok (but much more still needs to be done here in sorting out work arrangements). We've also been looking at many houses in Bangkok where you can get far better value for money than in the UK, and I expect to be either selling or renting out my place here.

We're also planning a party in the UK for friends sometime around April/May, and this will probably be in Bath with overnight accomodation arranged if needed. Everyone invited!

I was chatting with [livejournal.com profile] daveon last week about what you might be doing. It sounds like everything is going smoothly, but you'd better be around for the RSFG meal, as I won't back again in the UK 'til July. I visited Krabi on my RTW tour, I can reccommend the Bond tour.

Best wishes to you both.

Thanks. I'll try to be around for the RSFG meal but no guarantees of getting the day in the UK yet...

Thanks for the update. 1000 people at the reception is a completely mind-boggling number. What kind of refreshments will there be?

Lotsa strange Thai food... they don't really go in for cucumber sandwiches or cheese & pineapple on cocktail sticks!

Ha! Around here when you order chicken satay at a Thai restaurant, it's frequently served with a side dish of cucumbers and little triangles of toast.

But food for a thousand ...

Thanks... It can be a little daunting at times until I remind myself it's also an Awfully Big Adventure.

Congratulations!

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of job do you have? I used to think you were a travel writer but now I'm starting to think you are a plane pilot! :-)

It makes more sense now why you take so many photos in different parts of the world. ;-)

Dude, you're not the only one who has been suddenly enlightened.

Sounds like a fabulous plan for both the wedding and the honeymoon. :)

Great News Dude! Any chance you're going to either TUN or BSFA within next two months as I haven't chatted since early this year.
