24) Ian Whates, ed., Time Pieces, 2006
I believe I was actually the very first person to buy this book – Newcon Press's first publication – after its launch at Novacon in 2006. There are eight assorted SF stories, all enjoyable and mostly based around time and time travel, with contributions from mevennen, Stephen Baxter and Jon Courtenay Grimwood, among others. I'm sure most would agree the stand-out story is Ian Watson's 'The Globe of the Genius' – it's scientific, complex, funny and effortless, and the kind of thing he probably knocks off before breakfast. My admiration for Watson's versatility is ever-increasing, these days.
