I entered this photo of Benji's poodle Lookmen into Tachyon Publications' recent competition to promote Nancy Kress's new thriller, Dogs. It won! A signed first edition is on the way, plus some dog treats.

Lookmen has three modes of behaviour: "Happy", "Don't Do That..." and "Maim and Destroy". She can go from 1 to 3 faster than the speed of light and I have the scars to prove it.

That foreshortened picture makes her look snub-nosed like a Pekinese, but the other picture from the side shows her more wolfish, long-muzzled aspect.
