The Biden-Palin debate: the Ten Minute Version, occasionally amusing. This is also worth passing around:

What still makes me somewhat incredulous is that so many people who had quite possibly never heard of this woman just a few weeks ago, or maybe had never even so much as heard her speak, will soon be enthusiastically voting her into the second highest office in the US. That fact alone beggars belief, but then the flipside to their logic is obviously to vote in a Communist Muslim. Like Bush, Palin is another person I cannot bear to look at when she talks. Biden, on the other hand, seemed to be talking straight, and as a Brit I have been equally unfamiliar with him. I hope I do not have to see or hear from Palin beyond November.

[livejournal.com profile] fringefaan gives credit to Biden for the correct use of the word "Bosniak", whereas Palin can't even correctly pronounce "nuclear". All of which shows these people are really in two different leagues entirely: the better candidate could have cleaned up decisively, but supporters of Palin are claiming that she won, presumably because she didn't completely embarrass herself. See above.

This is all an enormous gamble, a bad dream. The rest of the world hopes it will end soon.

I fear that regardless of the result in November we may we be seeing a lot more of Ms Palin. She could well be the candidate in 2012.

Well yes, stranger things have happened. And maybe she'll have, you know, travelled a bit by then. Canada, maybe. A family holiday in Acapulco. Meet a few darker-skinned people who aren't Inuit. Plus she'll have to side with America's next war. On current form, that's just about enough foreign policy experience for an American governor to be able to run for President.

Nah. I hope America gives her her fifteen minutes of fame now and is then completely done with her.

I have the same issue with both Bush and Palin. Part of it is the same reason I can't make it through an episode of the office, an empathetic cringing shame that they ought to be feeling yet aren't.

You betcha.

Have you heard Sandi Toksvig's responses on the News Quiz?

She's started playing snippets of the "Hallelujah Chorus" because Palin is such a comedy gold mine and more than makes up for the loss of Ruth Kelly.

Although there is an underlying air of sadness - joking in the face of the apocalypse as it were.
