A 'For Sale' sign is up outside my parents house, where we moved to in 1967, and where I lived until 1982. I'll be very sad to see that place no longer in the family. It was an excellent home for us all.

I like to think I'd convinced them not to move on a couple of previous occasions (to Wales and Hampshire), and they were eventually glad they didn't as they now still have the family all around them when things aren't so good. At least they're wanting to stay local this time. Now for a few reasons (to do with money and health, mostly) I have to accept it's inevitable. Trying once again to convince them otherwise would be...

I lived in the same house from 1978 until 1999. Though those last four years were sporadic returns from college and such. So I know how you feel in a way. Though I didn't try to convince my parents to stay in the old house. It holds fond memories, but it is just a place. And I didn't want to live out there ever again.

Yes, like you, it's an attachment to memories; though I rarely feel attachment to inanimate things in themselves, even symbolic things.
