Miles turns ten months old today. I always said I never wanted to be on the other side of the world when my child walks for the first time but that seems to have been what's transpired: I'm marking 1 June 2010 as the day he walked five steps unassisted and unsupported, but at least I had a very shaky Skype connection to see it for myself. Walking at a little less than ten months old is pretty unusual – many parents I've spoken to have cited anything from twelve to sixteen months.
Sprog's Masterclass: Miles is a heavy 10kg now but he's not in any way overweight, just a big strong kid for his age. Also his 'vocabulary' is beginning to flourish as he links up many more types of sounds when he talks, but it might be a couple more months before he connects "dadadadada" with his dad: he certainly understands that "Miles" means him. This month we've also seen how he's beginning to play with a few kids his own age. He's very curious about other children and once he's got over a brief shyness it seems he likes to touch first, maybe to see if they'll play, then crawl around chasing them. He also has a tendency to pinch then scratch, so we need to cut his nails every few days.

And... teeth, useful for biting his dad's nose.
