A friend is trying to get his photography noticed (and has already had one picture picked up by Heat from the prep to the royal wedding!) and has asked for tips about getting published etc.

I notice you have managed to get some of your images licensed by Getty? is there a specific way that this occurred or do they just trawl Flickr looking for good photos?

They trawled Flickr a while back and asked a bunch of people if they'd like to be represented by Getty. They're still on the lookout for good stuff but now it's via submission of individual photos to a specific Flickr group, so possibly they may not be taking on so many photos per photographer. Here (http://www.flickr.com/gettyimages/) is the place to start. Please wish him/her luck from me... is he/she on Flickr yet?

He isn't yet due to being concerned that "if you put the photo online they don't have to pay you for it" applies (which I'm sure it doesn't - I thought that was when it was for non profit use not magazines/getty etc.)

He does put them on a locked down facebook though. I'll let him know and encourage him to use flickr and submit photos to that group.

Many thanks. :)

People write entire books trying to define 'zeitgeist' and then this comes along...
