Have just slept on the sofa for two hours. Have no idea why. I lead such an irregular up-and-down life anyway that weekends just dont count as weekends these days. And I dislike going out on my own on Saturday night.

I like this 'marriage is love' meme, and of course if you happen to be gay you should be able to show that kind of commitment if you want it. The only experience of marriage that I've had is that of my parents, a brother and both sisters. It's been a mixed bag of fortunes, but I particularly appreciate seeing happily married people like my parents, who are still in love after 46 years together. They have both been marriage guidance counsellors, and 'mentally compatible, physically compatible, spiritually compatible' is the way they see how a good marriage will work. They are a hard act to follow, and as I've already struck out on two disastrous engagements to two psychopathic women this batting average is probably the reason I'm having another quiet night in...

Like you, I believe in monogamous heterosexual love in the sense that I've seen it done. My parents loved each other for over 40 years, till death.
