The weather here is better than it was in Zimbabwe at the weekend, ie. it's warm, sunny and the sky is mostly blue. Summer's clearly on the way so I've dug out a very loud compilation of 70s/80s/90s rock, stuff I heard on the radio a few years ago while driving on the I-10 to Houston after a Blues-filled weekend in New Orleans with an old American schoolfriend who now lives in Seattle.

I probably couldn't listen to Bryan Adams's Summer of ’69 under any other circumstances.

Ooh, compilation!

I'd love to hear that compilation sometime! Now that I've got the CD player that plays CD-Rs with MP3s and the DVD player that plays CD-Rs with MP3s, and the portable harddisk MP3 player, I'm really starting to build a lot more playlists and compilations and I'm always looking out for tracks that I should be including.

Is it a compilation you made based on what you heard, or is it a commercial compilation of that stuff?

Yeah, I made a mental checklist of what I heard and back home I borrowed CDs from libraries and friends and made the CD-R:

Joe Walsh, Rocky Mountain Way
Lynyrd Skynyrd, Sweet Home Alabama
Tom Cochrane, Life is a Highway
Bryan Adams, Summer of ‘69
Billy Idol, White Wedding
Blue Öyster Cult, Don't Fear The Reaper
Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer
Bad Company, Feel Like Makin' Love
Tina Turner, Better Be Good To Me
Dire Straits, Money For Nothing
Simple Minds, Let There Be Love
Robert Palmer, Addicted To Love
Don Henley, The Boys Of Summer
Toto, Africa
Joe Walsh, Life's Been Good

Actually, there's a few more in there like Bon Jovi and Billy Idol that I wouldn't, um, normally listen to...

Good list!

Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
Silver Machine - Hawkwind
Black Hole Sun - er ... drat, I forget, Sound Garden?
Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
More than a Feeling - Boston
Mr Blue Sky - ELO
something by Kansas (Dust in the Wind, perhaps), something by Chicago (25 or 6 to 4?)
All Right Now - Free
Pinball Wizard - Elton John/Who
Hold Your Head Up - Argent
Monster Mash - Bobby Pickett?
Nantucket Sleighride - ?Mountain? (World in Action theme music)
Santana - Black Magic Woman
Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent
