With a little advice from
I want to put LJ to more visual use than I have so far... for instance I have plenty of good photos of sunrises and sunsets that I've taken over the years. This is the most recent, taken in Harare last Saturday evening around 5pm GMT.
EDIT: Sometimes the photo loads, sometimes it doesn't. Working on it.
EDIT 2: Have ditched Geocities, gone for Photobucket.
Nice shot!

Date: 2004-04-20 06:58 am (UTC)Right now I can't see the photo on my computer, so I'm looking for a way around this hassle. Argh, I need Nurofen!

Date: 2004-04-20 06:56 am (UTC)This topic has come up every so often and so we are still in the stage of figuring out what is required and whether it is worth the hassle. I can;t think of anything wrong with the Geocities solution except that they probably dislike you using them for just images as they will want to put ads on the pages (I guess).
The crude method would be that I set you up as a user on the machine and allow you to upload to your very own website - maybe a sub directory of http://www.diversebooks.com/reviewers/flyingsauce/ for example.
At the moment you need a fancy ftp program which actually knows how to do secure ftp - (sftp or ftp over ssh).
An alternative is that I set up a web application which lets you upload your images through the web front end. This may be better because you would not need any other program other than your usual web browser.
I'll think about it some more.

It has things like SSL radio boxes...
Mmmm...
Here is the site:
http://www.coreftp.com/
"includes SSH/SFTP, SSL/TLS, browser integration, site to site transfers, drag and drop support, file viewing, file editing, transfer resuming, firewall support, custom commands, URL parsing, and much, much more!
"Core FTP gives you a fast, easy, reliable way to update and maintain your web pages. It also provides a secure method (via SSL or SFTP) to upload and download files from FTP servers. Check out the list of features and you'll find almost every FTP feature you need, all in a free ftp program. There are no popup ads or advertising, and you're never asked or reminded to register."
I've been using it for ages, and have found it to be wonderful.
And, more to the point, it is free.

Date: 2004-04-20 07:14 am (UTC)You could always try one of the free web-based photo-hosting services like photobucket. I use them for pictures I want to to link to from LJ, and have had no problems. There's a file size limit of 250KB with autorescaling on anything bigger.
