So the EU is suddenly a bigger place, and if it means less war across Europe then I'm all for it, thanks (Shame on our 'leaders' for taking ideological and resource wars to other people's soil, but that's another rant entirely).

The EU civil servants and politicians who died and went to Heaven (there can’t have been many) were bored. Then one proposed a day trip to Hell. When they arrived at Hell, they were welcomed by their (far more numerous) colleagues and given a fantastic guided tour. They saw all the sins and vices they had forgotten since their days in Brussels and Strasbourg. Afterwards they were wined and dined more superbly than even in their expense—account days.

Once back in Heaven, they were quickly bored again and started to think that they had perhaps ended up in the wrong place. So they decided to pack their bags and move to Hell permanently. This time they were met by the Devil himself — and he looked far from friendly. As he started to whip them towards the eternal fires, they cried “What’s wrong? What have we done? Last time we had such a wonderful welcome!”

“Ah,” said the Devil, “Last time you were tourists. This time you are immigrants.”

Which is a funny thing about Europe. Aren't most nations over there losing population left and right and need a few more people to empty bedpans at national health?

If you mean that the average age of European countries is getting older, then yes, in that small respect Europe needs immigration. But this expansion is more about East European nations wanting to aligning themselves with Western Europe after Soviet communism failed them. And who can blame them?

'Less war across Europe' No chance. The next big one will just be called a 'European Civil War'. Cheerful bunny ain't I?
