The surname Rosin being as uncommon as it is there are only three: Soloman, Hans Gerd and William. William is Australian and we have his family details but Soloman and Hans Gerd have no relation information - it's very likely that these are nationalised Jewish immigrants making the entries more poignant.

Alfred James Rosin (Grandad) spent 3 years in a POW camp in Bremen but came back in one piece.

I remember you once told me you're not Jewish, no matter what [livejournal.com profile] green_amber thinks. When did the 'Jewishness' leave the family, if you get my drift?

There were five or six Peter Young's who've died in service since WW1. I chose one who was with the Black Watch for obvious reasons.

When did the 'Jewishness' leave the family, if you get my drift?

The 1901 census lists Alfred James (Grandad) at being 6 months old and living in Kent within a family of farm labourers. Details of Grandad's family are sketchy as both parents died when he was young and Grandad was raised by Barnado's. Apparently Grandad's sister tried to trace back the family at some point in the 80's but no parish records could be found for my great grandparents.

I've absolutely no proof that my family roots are jewish at all. Just a feeling that because the name is German, fairly rare, and the parish records can't be traced, that my great-grandparents arrived relatively recently in the UK.

My catholicism comes via my paternal grandmother.
