45) William S. Burroughs, The Cat Inside, 1992
Very different territory for Burroughs in this reminiscence of cats he has known. Anecdotal, sentimental without being saccharine, even those who dislike cats will very likely get something out of it.

A few years ago Doris' Lessings reminiscence about cats came out as a pretty little hardback - I snavelled it, and discovered it was full of horrible and depressing anecdotes!

I've always thought it must be something to do with elderly writers having run out of more interesting things to write about, so they write about their cats. We're doomed...
