More Tumblr: looking at my Flickr stats just now I see that yesterday this photo (of Penny the bookstore cat in the now-defunct Acres of Books in Long Beach, LA) got a click-through from this 4 month-old Tumblr post by addictedreader27, which I checked out just to see which photo had in fact been blogged. Nice. But even nicer was to discover the 663 notes attached to this photo, all showing rebloggings and likes. Most of the time I reckon my older photos on Flickr are languishing completely unseen unless they turn up in people's search engine results, so it was a surprise to discover just how active this photo has been beyond Flickr without me even knowing about it.

Another photo that I see has been passed around quite a bit at Tumblr is this dreamy one taken at Acres of Books (closed since 2008) in Long Beach, LA, of Penny the bookstore cat dreaming about a Very Hungry Caterpillar. Discovered via a click-through from Tumblr's Sant3ria, it's still one of my favourite cat photos.

As predicted, some wag has at last translated those talking cats.

Cats in conversation ... a rather extraordinary video, for which someone will inevitably write some dialogue.

Very different territory for Burroughs in this reminiscence of cats he has known. Anecdotal, sentimental without being saccharine, even those who dislike cats will very likely get something out of it.
