Don't look down
Oct. 24th, 2009 09:54 pmIt's strange how many people think the world's tallest building is still the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which stand at 452m. It isn't: since as long ago as 2004 the world's tallest building has been Taipei 101 in Taiwan, standing at 509m. But three weeks ago the exterior of the Burj Dubai was completed, standing at a mind-boggling 818m. If these numbers mean nothing and you need some idea of scale, look here:

I took this photo a few days ago taking off from Dubai, and I've only enhanced the colour slightly. As aerial shots go it's one of my personal favourites, alongside this view of Manhattan that I took a few years ago.

Turns out this midnight view of a fairground in Dubai, taken from a hotel room, was blogged way back in January 2008 over at Dubai Pictures. Not that I object, but I'm curious to know if it's possible to find out how many more have been blogged via Flickr without me knowing.
'Hotel View' Haikus
Feb. 3rd, 2005 03:04 pmAs the views from my hotel rooms usually reflect that 'mundane moment' rather well, this morning I thought it worth attempting ( a few Haikus... )

As the harbour is smelling particularly fragrant at the moment a few of us are planning a trip to Macau tomorrow, weather permitting.
( Meanwhile, four more stunningly exciting hotel views under here )
A few more 'Rooms with a View'

bibliofile and anyone else who may share the quirk of taking photos of the view from their hotel rooms, ( here are a few more including an entirely ghoulish one from Kuwait )
